Sei Handa is a gifted teenage calligrapher whose classmates secretly idolize him as an untouchable star. The catch is that Handa's relentless pessimism convinces him every gesture of admiration is contempt, so each well-meant approach reads to him as proof the whole school despises him. Set six years before Barakamon, this gag prequel follows the misunderstandings that pile up around Handa during his high school days.
