An unmotivated first-year high schooler stumbles on a girl rehearsing a magic trick on her own. She is Sempai, the lone surviving member of the school's Magic Club, genuinely skilled when nobody is watching but undone by stage fright the moment a single person looks her way, so her tricks collapse into pratfalls and wardrobe mishaps. Over his objections she drafts him as her assistant, and neither of them is ever given a name beyond Sempai and her assistant.
