Jan Akiyama arrives at Tokyo's elite Gobancho restaurant carrying the creed his grandfather drilled into him: in cooking, only victory counts. Arrogant and dazzlingly skilled, the sixteen-year-old bulldozes through high-stakes culinary duels with cutthroat technique and no interest in being liked. His sharpest opponent is Kiriko Gobancho, the owner's granddaughter, who holds that a dish exists for the person eating it.
