Yukiteru Amano, a withdrawn middle-schooler who spends his days writing observations into his phone diary, learns that Deus Ex Machina, the god of time and space, has turned his diary into a tool that predicts the future. Twelve holders of similar Future Diaries must now kill each other in a survival game; the last one standing inherits Deus's throne. Yukiteru's obsessive classmate Yuno Gasai, whose own diary tracks his every move, appoints herself his protector, her devotion as frightening as the other diary holders hunting them.
