Lucy, a Diclonius — a mutant born with invisible telekinetic arms called vectors and small horns on her head — escapes a coastal research facility in Kamakura, killing guards with her vectors as she goes. A head wound during the breakout splits her personality, leaving her childlike and mute under the name Nyu. University student Kouta and his cousin Yuka take the disoriented girl in, unaware of what she is or that armed teams are already moving to recapture her.
