Kagome Higurashi, a fifteen-year-old Tokyo schoolgirl, falls through an old well at her family's shrine and lands in Japan's Sengoku period, where she shatters the powerful Shikon Jewel into dozens of shards scattered across the countryside. She reluctantly teams up with Inuyasha, a brash half-dog-demon who was sealed to a sacred tree for fifty years, to recover the fragments before they fall into the hands of demons and warlords. Along the way, the fox child Shippō, the monk Miroku, and the demon slayer Sango join their quest.
