Zhang Chulan and Feng Baobao follow Chen Duo, a Company contractor who went off the books, out to the isolated settlement of Biyou Village, with Ma Xianhong and the rest of the team close behind. What waits there is less a hiding place than a working operation, and the Company's own history with the people it hires that way is why nobody will explain it. The fifth season of Yi Ren Zhi Xia picks up directly from the fourth.
