Rintaro Okabe has given up on saving Kurisu Makise, and in the Beta world line he is left with Mayuri Shiina alive and Kurisu gone. The winter of 2010 finds him hollowed out by her absence, while Suzuha Amane still wants him to change the future. A research team from Kurisu's old university, Maho Hiyajou among them, holds a seminar built on her thesis, and through it Okabe meets Amadeus, the system they built that lets him face a version of Kurisu again.
