When a gate to another dimension opens in Mikado City, creatures called Neighbors pour through until a defense force known as Border repels them using the invaders' own technology — weapons called Triggers. Four years later, Border trainee Osamu Mikumo meets transfer student Yuma Kuga, who turns out to be a humanoid Neighbor carrying a Black Trigger of immense power. Osamu tries to keep Yuma's identity hidden from Border while navigating the organization's internal rank battles.
