On a vacation to a lunar carnival in the year 5053, the teenage Viscount Albert de Morcerf falls into the orbit of a glittering nobleman known only as the Count of Monte Cristo, and brings the stranger home to Paris as the guest of his prominent family. The Count, in turn, accepts every invitation his enemies' children extend, weaving himself into the social calendar of the very Parisian elite who once destroyed him as the sailor Edmond Dantès. Gonzo's adaptation transplants Alexandre Dumas's revenge novel into a baroque space-age future, told from Albert's perspective as he begins to sense something wrong beneath his new friend's charm.
