In Stern Bild City, superpowered people called NEXT work as licensed heroes whose rescues and arrests are broadcast for points on the show Hero TV, their costumes plastered with corporate sponsors. Veteran hero Kotetsu T. Kaburagi, who fights as Wild Tiger and cares more about saving people than scoring, is paired off by his new employer with Barnaby Brooks Jr., a calculating rookie who shares his powers. The two clash over what a hero should be while Barnaby pursues the people behind his parents' murder.
