In the shinigami realm, the death god Ryuk recounts the human story he witnessed to a fellow shinigami: how high schooler Light Yagami found a Death Note that kills anyone whose name is written in it, and used it to wage a secret campaign against criminals as the figure the public dubbed Kira. His killings draw out the masked detective L, who closes in on Kira's identity. Released as two television specials, this is a condensed recap of the Death Note anime, not new story content.
