This compilation film recuts the first half of the Gurren Lagann TV series. Simon, a timid boy who digs tunnels for the underground village of Jeeha, finds a glowing Core Drill and a buried mecha face; his brash adopted brother Kamina insists there is a surface above. When the gunslinger Yoko and a Beastman-piloted machine crash through the ceiling, the two boys combine their mechs into Gurren Lagann and fight their way toward the sky. Reworked footage and new scenes condense the opening arc.
