In 2032, Public Security Section 9 cyborg Batou is paired with the mostly-human detective Togusa to investigate a string of killings by malfunctioning gynoids — doll-like androids that have turned on their owners. The trail leads through the underworld toward the robotics firm Locus Solus, while Batou, still haunted by the absent Major Motoko Kusanagi, weighs what separates a manufactured mind from a human one. This film is a sequel to the original Ghost in the Shell.
