Kal-el Albus is the deposed crown prince of an empire toppled by the Wind Revolution, now living under a false name and nursing a quiet vow of revenge against Nina Viento, the revolution's figurehead. He boards the floating island Isla on a voyage to find the edge of the sky, reuniting there with his childhood friend Claire and training as a fighter pilot among the other cadets. When the expedition comes under attack mid-flight, Kal-el's grudge collides with the war he is pulled back into.
