On the night the servers of the VRMMO Yggdrasil shut down for good, Momonga, the skeletal lich who leads the once-mighty guild Ainz Ooal Gown, stays logged in to the end inside the Great Tomb of Nazarick. Instead of disappearing, he finds himself trapped in his undead avatar in a strange new world, where Nazarick's NPCs have become living, loyal beings. Taking the name Ainz Ooal Gown, he sets out to learn where he is and to secure the tomb against whatever this world holds.
