Arata Kasuga lives an ordinary life with his cousin Hijiri until a black sun rises and a Breakdown Phenomenon swallows his hometown. He survives inside an illusion sustained by the Astil Manuscript, a grimoire Hijiri left behind, and the mage Lilith Asami gives him a choice: dispel the world or be executed. Learning that Hijiri may still be alive, Arata keeps the grimoire and enrolls at Royal Biblia Academy, a school for mages where Lilith is one of the Trinity Seven, its seven strongest students.
