Makoto Kowata is a fifteen-year-old witch-in-training who leaves Yokohama for the rural town of Hirosaki in Aomori, as custom dictates for young witches coming of age. She moves in with her cousins Kei and Chinatsu Kowata, who are pulled into her gentle, half-hidden craft of brewing potions, gathering herbs and the occasional broom flight. Quiet chapters follow Makoto and her black cat Chito as she settles into countryside life and introduces those around her to small wonders of witchcraft woven into everyday routines.
