An orb cast onto Earth by a being who watches from above takes the form of a rock, then moss, then a dying wolf in the Arctic. When it encounters an unnamed white-haired boy struggling alone in the snow, it absorbs his form and memories. Named Fushi by a girl called March in the lands to the south, the entity begins a journey through human settlements, gaining new forms from those it bonds with — while creatures called Nokkers hunt it to steal the memories it has gathered.
