Satou Tatsuhiro, a twenty-two-year-old college dropout, has spent nearly four years as a hikikomori in his Tokyo apartment, convinced that a shadowy organization called the NHK (Nihon Hikikomori Kyoukai) engineered his isolation. His neighbor Yamazaki Kaoru, a fellow shut-in studying game design, drags him into making a dating sim. Then Misaki Nakahara, a young woman with her own hidden reasons, appears at his door and proposes a private "project" to cure his withdrawal.
