Ryo Saeba is the better half of City Hunter, a freelance 'sweeper' in Tokyo's Shinjuku who takes jobs from clients who leave the code 'XYZ' on a station message board. A crack shot and incurable womanizer, he works alongside his partner Hideyuki Makimura until Hideyuki is killed, leaving Ryo to look after his tomboyish younger sister Kaori. She steps in as his new partner, swinging a giant hammer whenever his lecherous side gets out of hand.

Sent to Greece as a boy to earn one of the Cloths — sacred armors patterned after the constellations — Seiya returns to Japan as the Pegasus Bronze Saint, searching for the sister he was separated from. Saori Kido offers to help find her if he competes in the Galaxian Wars to claim the Sagittarius Gold Cloth. Saori is the reincarnation of Athena, and the Saints who rally to her must defend her against gods who would rule the Earth.
