Eijun Sawamura is a junior-high pitcher whose self-taught delivery makes the ball break unpredictably at the plate, though a wild pitch cost his team its final tournament game. Scouted by the powerhouse Seido High School, he leaves rural Nagano for Tokyo and finds himself competing against far more polished teammates for a spot on the mound. There he pairs with the sharp catcher Miyuki Kazuya and sets his sights on becoming Seido's ace and reaching the national stage at Koshien.
