Motoko Kusanagi and her old Section 9 crew are working California as the mercenary outfit GHOST when Daisuke Aramaki calls them home to Japan, into a world the simultaneous global default left running on the Sustainable War. Waiting for them are the post-humans, individuals whose brains have mutated into something that outthinks any countermeasure.
