Yugi Mutou, a quiet high-schooler, assembles the ancient Millennium Puzzle and awakens a nameless Pharaoh who shares his body. When Duel Monsters creator Maximillion Pegasus uses the Millennium Eye to steal Yugi's grandfather's soul, Yugi and the Pharaoh enter the Duelist Kingdom tournament alongside friends Jounouchi, Anzu, and Honda to win it back. Victory leads to the Battle City tournament organized by rival Seto Kaiba, where three Egyptian God Cards hold the key to the Pharaoh's forgotten past.
