Kraft Lawrence is a traveling merchant who roams a world modeled on medieval Europe, hauling goods town to town and saving toward the shop he dreams of owning. Stopping in the farming village of Pasloe, he wakes to find a centuries-old wolf-deity named Holo curled up in his cart, claiming to be the harvest goddess the villagers once revered. Holo bargains a ride north toward her distant homeland, and the two set off as Lawrence works the markets, with the story turning on trade and bargaining rather than swords.
