Shirou Emiya is an ordinary high schooler who can barely work the magecraft his adoptive father left him, until a night raid forces him to summon the swordswoman Saber. Their pairing drops him into the Holy Grail War, a secret contest in Fuyuki City where seven mages called Masters command Servants, heroic spirits drawn from history and legend, for a Grail said to grant any wish. This manga adapts the visual novel's original Fate route, with Shirou and Saber at odds over what a hero owes the people he saves.
