Mamoru Akasaka, a young Tokyo detective, is sent to the rural village of Hinamizawa to investigate the kidnapping of a government official's grandson. While he waits out the case, he crosses paths with Furude Rika, a quiet shrine maiden who warns him to leave the village before its summer festival. This manga adapts the fourth question arc of the Higurashi When They Cry mystery, set five years before the events of the other arcs.
