When the breakaway Principality of Zeon attacks the colony Side 7 during the One Year War, teenage civilian Amuro Ray climbs into a Federation prototype, the RX-78-2 Gundam, to defend the survivors. He and the refugees end up crewing the warship White Base, fleeing the conflict while a masked Zeon ace, Char Aznable, pursues them across space and Earth. The original 1979 series launched the Universal Century setting.
