As the fleet travels farther from Earth, each message takes longer to arrive, until years separate one reply from the next. This short OVA runs about thirty minutes.

This 2002 Toei Animation adaptation runs thirteen episodes, predating the later Kyoto Animation version.

This Studio Ghibli film is a spin-off of Whisper of the Heart.

Genya and his cameraman are pulled into the story alongside her.
