Kimihiro Watanuki is a high schooler cursed with the ability to see spirits, which swarm toward him and try to devour him wherever he goes. Fleeing one such attack, he stumbles into a shop that grants wishes, run by Yuuko Ichihara, a witch who offers to free him of his sight for a price of equal value. The price is his labor: Watanuki becomes Yuuko's part-time cook and housekeeper, and between chores she sends him on errands into the supernatural, each request from her clients carrying its own bargain and cost.
